Open any New Jersey dispensary menu for the first time and you will find a dozen categories, each with its own vocabulary. This plain-English guide walks through the main product types you will see on a licensed NJ menu, what each one is, how it is typically used, and where to read more before you order. It is not a ranking of “best” products. Menus change constantly, and the right choice depends on you.
Flower
Flower is the dried cannabis bud itself, sold by weight and usually labeled with a strain name, a type (indica, sativa or hybrid) and lab-tested cannabinoid content. It is the most traditional category and the one with the widest range of strains. If the labels are new to you, start with indica, sativa and hybrid explained, then see what “exotic” means on a menu and what “premium” actually means.
Pre-Rolls
Pre-rolls are flower that has already been ground and rolled, ready to light. They come as singles or multi-packs, and some are infused with concentrate for extra strength. Our pre-roll basics guide covers getting a smooth, even session.
Vapes and Concentrates
Vape cartridges and concentrates such as wax, shatter and live resin are made by extracting the active compounds from the plant. They are much stronger per serving than flower, so new users should start small. Read cannabis concentrates explained and how to use extracts at home before your first order.
Edibles
Edibles include gummies, chocolates and other foods made with cannabis. They are measured in milligrams of THC and take much longer to kick in than smoking or vaping, which is why the most common beginner mistake is taking a second dose too soon. Start with how long edibles take to kick in, how to read edible dosing labels and choosing your first edible. New Jersey caps ingestible products at 1,000 mg per transaction.
Tinctures
Tinctures are liquid cannabis extracts measured with a dropper. They let you adjust your serving in small steps and can be added to food or drinks. Our tincture guide explains how they compare with edibles.
Accessories
Papers, grinders, storage jars and vaporizer batteries round out most menus. You do not need much, but a few good tools make a difference. See our practical starter kit.
Choosing Where to Start
If you are not sure where to begin, think about two things: how quickly you want to feel the effects and how much control you want over the amount. Inhaled products such as flower, pre-rolls and vapes act within minutes, so it is easier to pace yourself. Edibles and tinctures take longer to start and last longer, which suits some people better but rewards patience. Whatever you pick, start low, go slow, and read the label. When in doubt, ask the dispensary what a product is meant for.
Ordering Any Category by Cannabis Delivery
Every product on a TerpTaxi order comes from the menu of a licensed partner dispensary. Delivery runs from 9 AM to 10 PM every day, the minimum order is $75 in every town except Hoboken (no minimum), and a driver checks a valid photo ID showing you are 21 or older before handing over your order in person. To see which partner dispensaries serve your area, find your town on our areas we serve page.
